Is Crypto Gambling Legal?
There is no single global answer.
Crypto gambling may be legal, restricted, tolerated, blocked, or prohibited depending on where the player is located and how the casino operates. A casino accepting cryptocurrency does not make the gambling activity automatically legal.
In most cases, the key legal questions are:
- Is online gambling legal in the player’s country or region?
- Is the casino licensed by a regulator accepted in that market?
- Does the casino actively target players from that country?
- Does the casino block restricted countries?
- Are crypto deposits and withdrawals allowed under local payment and AML rules?
- Does the casino require KYC or identity verification?
- Are winnings taxable in the player’s country?
For this reason, players should avoid assuming that “crypto” means “unregulated” or “legal everywhere.” Cryptocurrency is a payment method. Gambling remains subject to gambling law.
